RACE RESULTS - COLUMBIA MOTORSPORTS PARK- 12/3/00
LAKE CITY, Fla. - Darryl Shelnut quickly bonded with Jimmy Harris' potent orange and white Chevrolet Sunday afternoon and ran to a convincing win in the Sunoco/Suwannee 200 for Florida Pro Series late models at Columbia Motorsports Park.
Chilling temperatures kept the crowd down but the action trackside was nothing short of blazing. Mac Johnson set the early pace off the outside of the front row for the first 15 circuits around the banked half-mile oval as Shelnut, who has been inactive for much of the season, settled in for the long haul. By lap 16 Shelnut put the fleet No. 00 on the point but had Michael Williams for a shadow. Williams, making his first ever start here, never missed a beat and would not let Shetnut get away as the twosome ripped through traffic.
A yellow flag flew for a harmless spin on lap 135 and on the restart three laps later Shelnut took off while Williams coasted to the pits with driveline failure as Jimmy Cope took up the challenge on Shelnut. They ran the blance of the event in the same order with Johnson, Rick Carlton and Michael Faulk rounding out the top five finishers.
The companion 50 lap Florida modified feature fell to Dave Dunkin with a good drive over Mike Johnson, Josh Byrd, Scott Miller and Jerry Symons.

RACE RESULTS - CITRUS COUNTY SPEEDWAY- 11/4/00
INVERNESS, Fla. - Having home track advantage on his side, Florida Pro Series points leader Rick Carlton jumped from the outside pole and led all 125 laps to win Saturday night's tour event at Citrus County Speedway.
Aboard the McNatt Plumbing Chevy, Carlton set fast time then drew the outside of the front row on the redraw and when the green flag flew he out jumped teammate Robbie Yoakam for the lead. This lead duo, with hundreds of laps on the banked quarter-mile, were not the whole story as veteran James Powell and local track champion Mike Bresnahan were in a heated battle for third spot.
Powell finally wrestled second spot away from Yoakam on lap 105 and took off after Carlton with Bresnahan hot on his rear bumper. No one was able to advance and they crossed the stripe in that order with Carlton claiming his second win of the year. Rich Pratt and local runner Herb Neumann rounded out the top five finishers.
The Florida Pro season concludes on Sunday, Dec. 3 in a 200 lap event on the high banked half-mile at Columbia Motorsports Park in Lake City.

RACE RESULTS - COLUMBIA MOTORSPORTS PARK - 9/2/00
LAKE CITY, Fla. - James Powell III used every trick in his extensive book to hold off the fast closing Mac Johnson and win Saturday night's Florida Pro Series 125 late model race at Columbia Motorsports Park.
Two different rain storms limited practice and washed out time trials with point leader Shane Russ leading the 19 car field from the pole position on the fast half-mile oval. Rick Carlton, fully healed from his broken thumb, took the early lead over Russ. By lap 15 Jonny Kay had displaced Russ in second as Wayne Anderson moved to third. Meanwhile Powell was quitely moving Mark Cowheard's Chevy toward the front and took the point on lap 72. Three rounds later Mac Johnson, in a former Wayne Anderson mount, moved Anderson out of the way to gain third spot as he took off after Carlton.
With the top three all looking very strong, a triple tussle for the lead on lap 107 saw Carlton spin and fall from contention. Johnson now turned his attention to Powell and the battle ensued. A late race yellow closed up the field and with the white flag waving the fans were going nuts and it was anyone's race. Powell led Johnson by inches, not feet, off turn four as they came to the stripe and as the checkers flew it was Powell by, as one person put it, "three coats of paint." Johnson was a very close second over Jimmy Cope, Anderson, Kay and Carlton. Rich Pratt and Doc Batson rounded out the cars on the lead lap. Tom McCann, Jr and Al Beckleheimer, Jr completed the top 10 finishers.

RACE RESULTS - FLORIDA SPEED PARK - 7/8/00
ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - Still nursing a hand injury which has kept him out of action for the past month, Rick Carlton concentrated on the job at hand to win the Florida Pro Series 125 for late models Saturday night at Florida Speed Park.
Fastest qualifier Jonny Kay and Carlton led the 19 car field from the front row with Kay putting his No. 48 Pontiac on the point as the field worked the D shaped half-mile oval. On lap 46 Shane Sawyer moved past Carlton for second spot and took off after leader Kay. Just four rounds later, in a move for the lead, Sawyer and Kay tangled with Kay's mount spinning into the wall. Both were able to restart from the rear with Carlton the new leader.
Carlton put his McNatt Plumbing entry out front and was never seriously headed enroute to his first series win of the year. The real battle was for second place with second year driver Justin Drawdy edging Jonathan Brown for the spot. Scott Grossenbacher claimed fourth with Jeff Emery rounding out the top five runners.

RACE RESULTS COLUMBIA MOTORSPORTS PARK 5/27/00
LAKE CITY, Fla. - James Powell hustled to the lead on lap 20 and never looked back in capturing the 125 lap Florida Pro Series late model run Saturday night at Columbia Motorsports Park.
Rick Carlton started from the pole in his McNatt Plumbing entry and took the point on the opening green flag with quick qualifier Jonny Kay on his bumper. Jimmy Cope's night came to a quick end as he and Doc Batson tangled with Cope's familiar No. 61 sustaining front end damage from a trip to the famed dirt pile.
Despite leading, Carlton was struggling with an ill handling car as Kay patiently waited to make his pass for the lead. Before Kay could make his move, Powell made his, darting around both Carlton and Kay off turn two and down the back chute on the half-mile oval.
Possibly the best drive of the evening was turned in by Wayne Anderson. The second generation pilot looped his No. 84 in a solo spin on lap 85 while running with the leaders and went to the back of the field for the restart. When green flew so did the former NASCAR Slim Jim Champion as he set sail through the pack in a tremendous display of driving. By the end of the event he was able to catch second running Kay but could never mount the challenge needed to get further.
Mac Johnson and Todd Kuntze both had good drives spoiled by late race spins which took them out of top five positions. While the win was not the first in FPS competition for the veteran Powell it was the first in the series for long time car owner Mark Cowheard and his A Natural Difference Skin Care No. 37.
Finishing behind Powell, Kay and Anderson was Shane Sawyer and points leader Shane Russ. Rob Elting, Rob Partelo, top rookie Rich Pratt, Scott Grossenbacher and Carlton completed the top 10 finishers.

RACE RESULTS CORDELE MOTOR SPEEDWAY 5-13-00
CORDELE, Ga. - Second year late model driver Jonny Kay headlined the Florida Pro Series' first venture out of the Sunshine State Saturday night as he led wire to wire to win the 125 lap feature event at Cordele Motor Speedway.
Kay, who was the fastest qualifier in the 24 car field, drew the pole following time trials, and quickly put his Extensions Plus Pontiac on the point when the green flag waved.
As the field worked the newly paved 3/8 mile oval, Kay led Todd Kuntze, defending series champion Glenn Whitney and Jeff Emery in freight train formation on a very warm Georgia evening. Emery finally worked by Whitney and on lap 78 Kuntze hit pit road with a tire which was going flat. At that point Emery moved to second. Maybe the best action on the speedway was Jimmy Cope and Shane Russ coming back through the field as a result of a tangle and twin spin on lap 29.
Rick Carlton, who timed a disappointing 18th, steadily moved through the field and joined the top five late in the event but had nothing for Kay who managed to keep himself a pair of car lengths ahead of Emery to the checkers. Whitney kept his Exide Chevy up front all evening and claimed third money over Russ and Carlton. Richard Pratt, Kuntze, rookie Travis Kittleson, New York transplant Tom McCann, Jr and 16-year-old Allen Gordon rounded out the top 10 runners.
The series now moves to Columbia Motorsports Park in Lake City on May 27.

RACE RESULTS COLUMBIA MOTORSPORTS PARK 3-11-00
LAKE CITY, Fla. - Jimmy Cope continued his hot hand in Florida late model racing as he took the lead on lap 41 and sped to the win in the Florida Pro Series season opening 125 lap event Saturday night at Columbia Motorsports Park.
Former champion Shane Russ led from the outside of the front row but the race was only a lap old when John Lovelady crashed into the dirt bank off turn two to bring out a red flag. Knocked unconscious briefly, Lovelady went to the hospital for observation.
When the race went back to green two-time FPS champion Mike Franklin, Jr. put his familiar No. 72 on the point and began to click off some great laps around the banked half-mile oval. As the leaders worked lapped traffic on lap 40 local driver Nelson Sweeney slid up the track in front of Franklin with the two making contact as both spun as did fastest qualifier James Powell III.
As the field went back to action on lap 41 it was Cope the new leader over Russ but most eyes were on the Franklin-Powell duo as they rocketed from the back of the 25-car field.
With the checkered flag almost in sight a yellow closed the field just as Franklin overhauled John Carter, Jr for third spot. They took their proper positions and ran to the checkers with Cope the winner of Russ, top rookie Richard Pratt, Carter and Franklin. The second five saw Powell lead Doc Batson, Rick Carlton, Mike Fritts and Rob Elting.
